Product Approvals for Monumental Skylights
Extensive testing has been performed on Gammans Skylight Systems, utilizing “independent, third-party qualified and accredited testing and laboratory facilities.”1 However, as all of our work is custom in nature, it is impossible to include every condition, span, detail, or fastener in our online Florida approvals. Florida recognizes this as a common situation with custom, monumental, or one of a kind work and has included an alternative approval method in their Statutes. In accordance with this alternative approval method – commonly referred to as “Site Specific Submittals” or “One Time Approval” – each job is submitted with Site Specific Shop drawings and calculations that have been stamped by a Florida licensed engineer indicating conformance with the appropriate Florida Building Code. With this approved alternative product evaluation method, no additional Florida Approval Number or NOA is required. Furthermore, any such work that conforms to the Florida State HVHZ areas automatically conforms to Miami-Dade standards and no additional product labeling is required. The Florida licensed architect or engineer may employ “testing or comparative or rational analysis, or a combination thereof” to determine that the product is at least equal to that required by the Florida Building Code.2 As provided for in these Florida Statutes3 , our Florida licensed engineers are approved product evaluation entities.4 They provide the review and evaluation, including full sets of stamped detailed shop drawings together with stamped structural calculations to support their analysis. The testing performed and provided in our approvals is incorporated into the body of the work as a portion of their product evaluation process. In addition to the extensive testing, comparative, and/or rational analysis, Gammans Skylight Systems is also certified as a participant in a Quality Assurance
